Public Notice of Open Meeting

A Regular City Council Meeting, was held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., at Seymour City Hall, 301 N Washington St, Seymour, Texas 76380. All notices were duly posted in accordance and conformance with the Government Code of the State of Texas, Section 551.072 (c.) The City of Seymour attempts to make its meetings accessible to all its citizens.  The agenda is also posted on the city’s website at www.cityofseymour.org, with the following agenda to be considered:

OPEN MEETING – 7pm

  • Call to Order, Roll Call and Pledge of Allegiance by Mayor Mark McCord.
  • Prayer by Dr. Jeffrey L Brasher
  • Announcements by Mayor Mark McCord and/or MPT Monty Glass
  • Recognition of Chays Frost as on outstanding lifeguard

CITIZEN COMMENTS

Sherriff Darcy White appreciates the partnership with the City of Seymour Police Department and are happy that all departments are more cohesive than usual and praised the work of the lifeguards and the quality of the pool.

  1. Res 1571 to designate the official meeting place of the City Council to be the Whiteside Center for the Performing Arts, also known as City Hall Auditorium, located at 301 N Washington St.

    MOTION TO ACCEPT RESOLUTION 1571 MADE BY MONTY GLASS, 2ND BY LAN WINN.  VOTE 4-0.  MOTION PASSES.
  2. Discuss, Consider, and take Action to purchase a work vehicle for the City of Seymour Water Department.

    MOTION TO TABLE UNTIL FURTHER INFORMATION MADE BY MONTY GLASS, 2ND BY DEBBIE GEILLISPIE.  VOTE 4-0.
  3. Discuss, Consider, and take Action on the enforcement of the City’s Ordinance 10.215 golf carts and utility vehicles.

    MOTION TO TABLE AND TO MODIFY THE ORDINANCE WITH THE DIRECTION OF SARGEANT BRYCE SAWYER MADE BY BILLY HENRICKS, 2ND BY DEBBIE GILLISPIE. VOTE 4-0.  MOTION PASSES
  4. Discuss, Consider, and take Action of Bids received for demolition of 301 N Cedar

    MOTION TO ACCEPT BID FROM CL SERVICES, LEE LOHMAN, MADE BY MONTY GLASS, 2ND BY BILLY HENRICKS.  VOTE 4-0. MOTION PASSES.
  5. Discuss, Consider, and take Action on Bids received for 1007 Kenning Dr

  2. An Executive Session, closed to the public and pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Local Government Code, under §551. 071: An agenda item that requires consultation with City Attorney.
  3. An Executive Session, closed to the public and pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Local Government Code, under §551. 074: Personnel Interview for Chief of Police.

    MOTION TO HIRE BRYCE SAWYER AS INTERIM CHIEF FOR 6 MONTHS WITH A SALARY OF $50,000 WITH A PERFORMANCE & PAY EVALUATION AT THE END OF 6 MONTHS AND TO HIRE A PART-TIME OFFICER UNTIL THE CHIEF GRIFFIN’S RETIREMENT AND THEN THAT OFFICER WILL BECOME FULL-TIME BY LAN WINN, 2ND BY MONTY GLASS.  VOTE 4-0. MOTION PASSES.
