RESOLUTION 1572 – AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF A CERTAIN FIREARM

RESOLUTION NO. 1572
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEYMOUR, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF A CERTAIN FIREARM TO RETIRING CHIEF OF POLICE MIKE GRIFFIN; RECOGNIZING CHIEF GRIFFIN’S SERVICE TO THE CITY OF SEYMOUR; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Seymour, Texas (the “City”), is a Type A general-law municipality located in Baylor County, Texas, created in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Local Government Code and operating pursuant to the enabling legislation of the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Chief of Police, Mike Griffin, intends to retire on August 31, 2024, after 33 years of exemplary service to the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council now seeks to sell the Smith & Wesson 9mm Model 5906, serial number TDC37101988 (the “Firearm”), currently in the possession of the Seymour Police Department, to Chief Griffin upon his retirement as a gesture of appreciation for Chief Griffin’s unwavering commitment to public safety and service; and
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby authorizes the City Administrator to facilitate the sale of the Firearm to Chief Griffin for a reasonable market price.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEYMOUR, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
All the above premises are true and correct findings of the City Council, and they are hereby approved, ratified, and incorporated into the body of this Resolution as if copied in their entirety.
SECTION 2.
In recognition of Chief of Police Mike Griffin’s service to the City, the City Administrator is hereby authorized to facilitate the sale of the Firearm to Chief Griffin for a reasonable market price and in accordance with applicable federal and state laws governing the sale and/or transfer of firearms.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval, and it is so resolved.
