Lifeguard

Position Title:        Lifeguard

Supervision Received:  Work is performed under the general  supervision of the Swimming Pool Manager or his/her designee.

Supervision Exercised:  Exercises supervision over patrons to insure safe and orderly conduct in and around the pool area.

Job Summary:  Maintains water safety, quality and clean sanitary pool area.

Essential Job Duties:  Strictly adhere to City pool operations rules, regulations and instructions issued by Pool Manager.  Keeps safety as the utmost goal at all times.    Pool and dressing rooms must be clean and sanitary at all times.  Display professionalism and good judgment to create a safe, enjoyable swimming area for all patrons.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:  Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift, dive, swim and climb into small places.  Ability to lift pumps, motors, fittings, clamps and related equipment to complete the work and ability to turn valves on and off.  Employee will be exposed to hazardous chemicals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Knowledge:  Knowledge of swimming pool operations, procedures and practices; knowledge of water chlorination techniques; knowledge of basic life saving techniques and swimming pool and water safety.

Skills:  Skill to communicate orally; skill in performing work requiring strength and agility; skill in preventative and minor maintenance on equipment.  Skill in chemically stabilizing and maintaining quality water conditions.

Abilities:  Ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to identify and correct potential safety hazards.  Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in dealing with pool patrons.

Education:  Red Cross approved Lifesaving Certification.  Must have all required training required to serve as a lifeguard.

Experience:  None

Licenses and Certificates:  Minimum requirements as prescribed by the Red Cross to act as a lifeguard.
