Electric Lineman
Job description
Job Summary: Operates equipment associated with electrical system and does maintenance to equipment and lines within the system. Reads meters and is subject to call-out after hours, weekends and holidays.
Essential Job Duties: Responsible for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the electrical system. Operates all associated equipment required to perform assigned tasks. Assist in cleaning, testing, and overhauling transformers, network protectors and meters. Installs, replaces, and repairs electrical equipment. Installs and repairs lights, fixtures and bulbs on City property. Reads meters and reports any discrepancies noted and re-reads when necessary. Connects and disconnects service as directed. Takes after hours calls when assigned to include holidays and weekends. Work closely with citizens, City staff and contractors.
All other duties as assigned.
Non-essential Job Duties: May be required to make deliveries and pick ups for other departments. Ability to perform manual labor task as necessary. Ability to communicate with citizens, contractors and employees.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Ability to sit, stoop, stand, crawl and transport self from building to building and around the community to read meters. Ability to climb ladders, poles and stairs. To lift objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Ability to work at elevated heights. Employee will be exposed to adverse weather condition associated with the North Texas Area and may also be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals, smoke, animals and materials while in the field. Employee will be exposed to highly dangerous electrical voltage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Knowledge: Knowledge of City ordinances, rules, regulations and safety standards related to high- voltage electrical system. Be familiar with methods, materials, tools, equipment and techniques used in maintenance and repair of the electrical system. Be familiar with the electrical distribution and geography of the City.
Skills: Skill to communicate in writing and orally; read and transcribe numbers with speed and accuracy. Skill to operate a variety of equipment, operate two-way radio, read meters and operate a hand-held meter reading device. Skill to work safely and efficiently at elevated heights.
Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, courteously and diplomatically with the public and other City employees. Be able to plan in advance and use time effectively. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Education: High school graduate or GED. Skill courses related to an electrical system preferred, but not required.
Experience: Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, and ability is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and certificates: Texas Class “C” driver’s license. Must attend professional development training classes and/or safety classes out of town as directed by Electric Department Superintendent.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 – $20.00 per hour
