It is a great opportunity for citizens of Seymour to show tourists – participants of the ride – how friendly our community is. If you see a bicycle mounted on a vehicle or see someone riding their bike along the highway, give them a big wave! If they are eating in our restaurants or getting gas, or shopping in our stores speak to them and tell them thanks for coming and to come back soon! The Chamber has always had compliments on how friendly our community is and how much fun tourists have at all our events. We try hard to make this event a fun experience for everyone like all our other events. There are 5 rest stops along the 22 mile, 45 mile, and 100K routes.  The rest stops not only refresh and water the weary but entertain the riders with friendly service and fun themes. The EMS is always available for any emergency that might occur. A SAG wagon assists the riders when misfortune besets them such as a flat tire or when the route overtakes them.  Often the fire department cools them off with an unexpected shower of water along the way. Other area rides have a cut off time but Seymour’s volunteers are there till the end. There is never a rider left behind! Our event is not a race but an outing. We have great, safe, and scenic routes. There is a 6 mile route for the family along with the 100K endurance route for the experienced. Registration is at 7. This is a time that all riders are preparing their bikes for the ride, putting on tires, adjusting their gears, riding up and down the street checking for problems, or just stretching. This builds the enthusiasm. The ride begins at 8. Watching the participants line-up is always exciting and
oddly enough very colorful!  And then they are off! Some with the intent to be the first back, others just enjoying friendly competition with their partners or family. When they all return from the ride, a free BBQ plate lunch is served. There is the signature pulled pork BBQ, potato salad and a huge pot of beans! Freezers of homemade ice cream top off the meal. The Chamber couldn’t host this event without the support of donors and volunteers. Call the Chamber today for this family friendly event! Bring your bike and ride!! Or be a volunteer! Or stand on the sideline and root for your favorite participants at the Chamber’s annual Wild Pig Pedal, June 22, 2019
